Expert Spotlight - Helen Angell June 2025

What is your role now since leaving corporate life?

I started Helm 360 Consult Ltd in 2020, after nearly 30 years of ‘growing up’ in claims operations, planning, and digital delivery. My roles often cut across functions, giving me deep insight into real-world challenges across the claims end to end value chain.

Today, I lead a consultancy that helps insurance-sector SMEs and supply chains deliver credible, commercially focused ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) strategies. From boosting governance transparency without adding red tape, to increasing social value without reinventing the wheel – we keep it real and practical. I also collaborate with other ESG specialists, ensuring our clients benefit from the best knowledge and application available.

How long have you been an expert of Camelot?

Since October 2020.

Have you been a panel expert on any Road Tests?

Yes – I’ve joined several Road Tests. What strikes me each time is how one well-placed piece of advice can shift the course of a product or proposition. What feels obvious to us can be a gamechanger to someone else. It’s a brilliant way to give back – and to stay close to new thinking.

Are you a leader or a member of a Camelot Special Interest Group?

Not formally – but I regularly engage in ESG and insurance-related discussions. There’s huge value in collaborative insight on regulation, consumer expectations, and sustainability – especially in claims.

Area of expertise

Claims, Sustainability, Systems Thinking

Highest/proudest most recognisable previous role

  • My proudest achievement is using my “claims battle scars” to support better social outcomes through ESG – purposeful work, grounded in lived experience.

  • Leading Innovation for Aviva UKGI Claims was a surprising but welcome chapter in my career (especially given my son’s regular reminder that with my tech knowledge I can barely work the TV remote!).

How long have you been doing this subject/area

33 years in Claims, of which, 5 years in Sustainability (focused on Social & Governance) and around 10 years in experience in Systems Thinking application.

What is your company name?

Helm 360 Consult Ltd

Do you have a website?

What is your LinkedIn profile URL?

Please can you provide some examples of recent projects/professional high points that you’ve worked on?

  • Coached operational leaders through systems thinking interventions across insurance tech, transport, and cybersecurity industries – helping teams tackle complexity and deliver meaningful, sustainable change.Developed ESG frameworks for supply chain SMEs, focused on social value and governance, partnering with environmental experts to simplify delivery and reduce client workload.

  • Leading a multi-year ESG programme for UK claims providers, aligning carbon reduction, Consumer Duty, and insurer reporting needs.

  • On a personal note – jeg lærer dansk! I’m learning Danish, thanks to my Danish husband and Danish bonus kids. Splitting time between the UK and wonderful, wonderful Copenhagen keeps life interesting and gives me a fresh perspective – both professionally and personally.

What is your unique selling point? What makes your business approach unique?

We combine deep claims knowledge with ESG strategy, making sustainability achievable for frontline teams and leadership alike. Our approach is practical, commercially sound, and free of fluff – designed for real operations, not theoretical ideals. We bring expert ESG depth without the big consultancy price tag.

Do you have a Favourite quote?

My favourite quote is “Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.” – Arthur Ashe

It’s a reminder that small, purposeful action drives meaningful impact – whether you’re transforming claims, scaling a business, or shaping an ESG roadmap.

Any professional goals for the upcoming year?

This year, I’m focused on expanding the social and governance impact of ESG in claims – particularly in support of Consumer Duty and fair value. I’m launching a series of ‘ESG Essentials’ packages tailored to SMEs in the insurance supply chain, helping them respond to insurer procurement demands with confidence and credibility.

And… Last but not least, how does being an expert of Camelot help you/or add value to your business?Camelot connects me with a network of exceptional thinkers and doers, keeping me sharp and grounded. The variety of perspectives enriches my client work and gives me space to challenge assumptions - both mine and others’.

Road Tests and community conversations have been a great way to sense-test new ideas, and I always come away energised. Camelot keeps me close to innovation, but always through a lens of real-world application - which fits perfectly with how I work.

There’s also a small but spirited informal Camelot Scotland, where we expertly juggle business banter, bold ideas, and the occasional liquid lunch - strictly in the name of networking, of course.
