About the event
The Middle East region has been at the crossroads of civilizations since antiquity between Europe, Asia, and Africa. Centuries marked this region with the wealth of rich cultures and diversity, global trade routes, strategic crops and minerals, and innovations. Conquests and wars also shaped the history of the Middle East, and continue to this day and age.
In this session we will review how the history, geography, economics and politics intermix in this mech of cultures affecting the entire globe. The region has 3 of the most critical maritime passages (Suez Canal, Strait of Hormuz, Bab el‑Mandeb) that carry more than 30% of the global container traffic, ~30% of the global oil production and ~17% of global natural gas production.
We will then discuss the implications of insurance risks for the Middle East and why they matter for UK insurers and Lloyd’s syndicates.
The objectives are to clarify some facts and figures about the Middle East and discuss risks and opportunities for the insurance sector.
