About the event

Camelot Innovation Hour gives Innovation inspiration from outside the insurance industry FOR the insurance industry. There's a whole world out there, let's learn.

October's episode welcomes guest speaker Matt Sturgess, who began his career as an electronic engineer in Thorn EMI. He designed the TV first surround sound loudspeakers, moved into sales, and then international roles in different industries. Held many senior roles including Commercial Director, MD and CEO with major global companies (Tyco, Engelhard/BASF, Goodmans) and SME’s giving him a wide breadth of experience.

His 10-year fascination with how the mind works, is the result of an obsession to create a series of mind “user manuals” to help people manage their thoughts and emotions to become more productive, creative and happier in life. He perfected and field tested his techniques during a year of gruelling treatment for his wife’s cancer. His first book “Nuclear Powered Resilience” was inspired by one technique shared with a friend that transformed their mental health in a 2-hour walk, previously they had spent thousands of pounds and been on every programme and they could find for decades.

Everything we ever did or will do started with a thought! Matt’s mission is to make more of them better ones.

Innovation is hard, it takes commitment and resiliency to keep bouncing back. Success is not just about having great ideas, perseverance is needed to see things through. Innovation is a journey of twists, turns and dead ends, so how can we cope?

Matt Sturgess is an expert in understanding how we can build personal resilience, so that whatever the challenge in front of us, we can approach it with confidence.

This innovation hour will explore:

  • Why is being resilient is crucial for success?
  • What is happening when it all goes wrong?
  • What practices can we put in place to strengthen our resilience?
  • What can we do to avoid common pitfalls and challenges?
  • How can we support those we lead or work with to become more resilient?
